The Trauma Surgery Unit at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban (HTJS), established in July 2024 serves as the regional trauma referral centre for Negeri Sembilan, providing comprehensive, coordinated care for injured patients from pre-hospital arrival through definitive treatment, critical care, and rehabilitation. As one of the busiest trauma centres in Malaysia, HTJS manages a full spectrum of injuries—from minor trauma to complex, life-threatening polytrauma.

Scope of Services

The Trauma Surgery Unit oversees:

  • 24/7 trauma team activation and resuscitation in the Emergency Department

  • Definitive surgical management of torso trauma, complex abdominal injuries, thoracic trauma, and vascular emergencies

  • Trauma Critical Care in collaboration with Anaesthesia and ICU

  • Early rehabilitation and functional recovery planning with multidisciplinary support

  • Coordination of care for multisystem injuries involving Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, and other specialties

Clinical Operations

  • Round-the-clock trauma surgeon availability for major trauma activations

  • Dedicated trauma operating capacity for emergency surgery

  • Standardised protocols including ATLS-based resuscitation, massive transfusion protocols, and damage control surgery

  • Comprehensive imaging support (FAST, CT, angiography) enabling rapid diagnosis and intervention

  • Trauma wards and high-dependency care for ongoing management

The Trauma Surgery Unit works closely with:

  • Emergency Department

  • Anaesthesia & Critical Care

  • Blood Bank (including Safe O transfusion support)

  • Radiology & Interventional Radiology

  • Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and other surgical subspecialties

  • Rehabilitation Medicine & Allied Health

 

This integrated system ensures timely, coordinated management for patients across the entire trauma pathway.
