The Hepatobiliary (HPB) Surgery Service at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban (HTJS) provides specialised care for patients with diseases of the liver, biliary system, pancreas, and upper gastrointestinal tract. As one of the major tertiary referral centres in Negeri Sembilan, HTJS manages a wide range of benign and malignant HPB conditions with a focus on safe, evidence-based, and multidisciplinary care.

Scope of Services

The HPB unit offers comprehensive diagnostic, operative, and peri-operative management for conditions such as:

  • Hepatobiliary diseases: gallstone disease, cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis, biliary obstruction, benign biliary strictures

  • Pancreatic disorders: pancreatitis, pseudocysts, pancreatic tumours (benign and malignant)

  • Liver conditions: liver abscess, benign liver lesions, hepatocellular carcinoma (in collaboration with oncology)

  • HPB malignancies: cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic cancer, periampullary tumours

Clinical Operations

The HPB service functions through a structured set of clinical activities, including:

  • Dedicated HPB Outpatient Clinics for follow-up, preoperative assessment, and long-term surveillance

  • Elective Operating Lists for open and minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, bile duct exploration, and selected complex surgeries

  • 24/7 Emergency HPB Coverage, especially for complicated gallstone disease, acute pancreatitis, obstructive jaundice, and abdominal trauma

  • Inpatient Care delivered in surgical wards with close collaboration between surgeons, anaesthetists, radiologists, and hepatology/oncology teams
